CITIZEN Alarm Date “Fourhands”, 1960s

— When the hour was announced by sound —

Before smartphones and digital watches, what told people that the moment had come was a small hammer inside a watch case. The Citizen Alarm Date was born in December 1965 and is a vintage piece written firmly into Japanese watch history.

— Four hands, doing four jobs —

On the black dial are hours, minutes, seconds, and a fourth hand tipped with an arrow to set the alarm. "4H" on the dial stands for those four hands.

At three is a nostalgic date window under a cyclops lens, and the two crowns — the real character of this watch — give it a presence nothing else has. The crown at two sets the alarm, the crown at four the time, and the feel of them under the fingers is the point of a mechanical watch.

The hand-wound calibre 3102 has been running strongly for more than half a century. "PARA 40M WATER" on the dial inherits the glory of Parawater, Citizen's water-resistant technology of the day.

— For the next fifty years —

Sharp markers against a chic black dial. Vintage in character, and a refined accent to present-day dressing. In a world this digital, the warm rattle of a mechanical alarm is worth listening to.
