The movement is Gothic Watch Co.'s Jarproof.

Gothic Watch Co. was established in New York around 1925 and registered the "Jar-Proof" trademark in 1926.

The construction was patented around 1929 (No.102795) and is regarded as a forerunner of modern shock-protection systems such as Incabloc and Kif.

The jewel supporting the balance staff is held in a steel plate, and that plate is mounted on a ring-shaped component.

Under impact it moves slightly to absorb the shock, and so prevents the balance staff from breaking.

— A bold advertising method —

To advertise its shock resistance, there is a story of a watch thrown from the roof of an eleven-storey building, which kept running unbroken.

This bold advertising approach is regarded as the forerunner of the durability advertising Timex ran in the 1950s and 60s.
