The Cabaret.
A watch that deliberately avoids the obvious path and offers the finest kind of counterpoint — surely the first choice for anyone who dresses well and wears carefully chosen off-key pieces.
The German watch brand is A. Lange & Söhne.
The Cabaret, announced at Baselworld in 1997 and distinguished as Lange's only rectangular case, has arrived.
An outsize date placed in exquisite balance, a dial with a small seconds, and a beautiful dedicated rectangular movement, carefully polished and decorated — a piece full of appeal.
In German-speaking countries a Kabarett is a literary variety show: a place for chansons, sketches and performance. As the name suggests, this watch was designed as a stage for showing extraordinary watchmaking.
The Cabaret's movement is A. Lange & Söhne's second non-circular calibre, the Cal.L931, following the Cal.L911 of the 1994 Arkade.
From the calibre number Cal.L931 you can see that Cabaret production began in 1993 (Cal.L"93"1).
Beautiful ageing of the German silver, blued screws, gold chatons, mirror-polished escape wheel caps, a hand-engraved balance cock — a movement with every Lange feature present, and one to fall for.
It runs at 3 Hz with a 42-hour power reserve.
It is fitted with an unused original leather strap and comes with its original service case.
