— Robustness that earned it the name of a steel safe —
The Zenith Defy appeared at the end of the 1960s.
Its robustness earned it the nickname "the safe."
The thick octagonal stainless case was designed with durability in mind, and half a century on it still keeps a commanding form.
— A smoky dial born of the years —
The dial is a smoky gradient, changing in depth from the centre toward the edge.
The shift from brown to grey comes from ageing, and gives it a calm, vintage expression.
The marking "28800" shows the high-beat specification.
— Stable accuracy from the Cal.2562PC —
The movement is Zenith's automatic Cal.2562PC.
At 28,800 vibrations per hour it produces a smooth sweep of the seconds hand.
A rubber suspension construction protecting the movement is another feature, and it conveys the technical thinking of the time.
— A watch carrying 1970s design philosophy —
The caseback is struck with the Zenith star, and the bracelet has a robust construction inheriting Gay Frères design.
A model that balances reliability as a tool with real design, and whose appeal has not faded over the years.
