— A working record from medicine —
A nurse's watch by Bucherer of Lucerne. Long used in clinical work, watches like this were designed to hang from a breast pocket, with the dial inverted so that the time could be read in an environment where hands had to stay clean.
The red pulsometer around the edge was used by doctors to measure a pulse.
— Function by Fontainemelon —
The movement is the FHF (Fontainemelon) calibre ST974, a hand-wound movement widely used around the 1970s.
A date at four is unusual in a pocket watch, and practical. Incabloc shock protection provides reliability against knocks.
The date can be quick-set by running the hands back and forth across midnight between 21:00 and 24:00 — a movement built around the practical thinking of its time.
— Aged lume, and dignity —
A watch that carries the history of supporting medical work, and the honesty of a tool, with a quality that would not be out of place in a hospital today.
