— Straight lines, pared back —
Longines has led Swiss watchmaking since 1832. This is an extremely elegant square dress watch with the aesthetics of the 1970s concentrated into it: a case drawn to golden proportions with every unnecessary ornament removed, and a fine slate finish on the flanks that changes quietly but definitely with the light.
— A mechanism that disappears —
Longines' celebrated slim hand-wound calibre L847.4. At just 2.5mm thick, it allows the whole watch to sit beautifully under a cuff. The delicate resistance at the moment of winding is one of the luxuries of a hand-wound watch.
— A quiet dial —
The grey slate dial, vertically brushed, holds a calm brightness. Extremely fine baton markers and two black hands running without hesitation: composition of this severity is not something contemporary watches offer, and it is exactly what vintage Longines does well.
— A timeless design —
The slight character the years have added is the record of fifty years of use, and the stainless steel is as bright as ever.
From formal business dress to a good weekend jacket, it raises the intelligence of whatever it is worn with.
