WITTNAUER Super Compressor ref.8007 cal.C11KAS / EPSA Case, Double Crown

A thick double-crown case, with dial and inner bezel unified in deep black, makes for a sharp, understated bearing.

It uses an EPSA Super Compressor case.

The inverted idea of a case that seals more tightly under water pressure — which is why it became such a popular diver's watch.

The same case was used by IWC and Jaeger-LeCoultre, and inside the caseback the EPSA diver marking can be seen.

There are two crowns.

The one at four operates the movement; the one at two turns the inner rotating ring.

What beats inside is the automatic Cal.C11KAS.

The rotor is gold plated, with the initial "W" rising from it.

Care that nobody was meant to see lives in it.

Wittnauer was a diffusion brand that the Swiss house Longines ran for the American and Canadian markets from the 1930s to the 1970s.

(Something like Tudor's position within Rolex.)

But a real history lies behind it: under a Longines strategy aimed at the luxury end, Wittnauer was the brand that reached people at a more accessible price.
