— A Geneva treasure —
A 31.5mm fancy round case, released by Universal Genève during the 1950s, watchmaking's golden decade.
The years have not spared it marks; they have given the material depth and density instead, and the watch now has the bearing of an object people talk about.
— A faded dial, and its quiet —
A champagne gold dial that time has drawn into something paler and deeper. Baton markers with nothing wasted, and sharp, graceful dolphin hands.
Every glance returns the warm contrast that only fifty-odd years can produce.
— Calibre 332 —
Inside is calibre UG 332, one of the movements that represent the house. Seventeen rubies beautifully placed, and a sound that is still strong.
The fine finishing shows the old Swiss instinct to apply an aesthetic even where nobody will look.
— A particular kind of time —
Universal Genève produced the Polerouter and the Compax series, among many other celebrated models.
Which is exactly why finding beauty in the pieces that stand outside the famous names, and outside the stories, is one honest way of testing your own eye as a collector.
