— A bold circle, drawn by its decade —
What SICURA produced in 1970s Switzerland was a presence that rewrote what a watch was expected to look like.
A substantial bezel glowing amber, as though the avant-garde furniture and art of the period had been condensed onto a wrist. Even the marks the years have left are decoration that only fifty shared years can supply.
— A shifting gradient —
The sunburst dial moves gracefully from deep brown to soft beige.
Breguet numerals, classical and playful at once, seen through a domed crystal, change like a kaleidoscope with the angle.
— A Breitling connection —
Ernest Schneider, the man who rebuilt Breitling, owned Sicura; when the quartz crisis left Breitling in difficulty, he used that stable business as the basis for taking it over.
Breitling's present headquarters building in Bienne was once Sicura's own.
The spirit of the moment just before digitalisation arrived — when mechanical watches were at their freest and most enthusiastic — is quietly present in this small case.
— Individual —
Character and warmth that current watches do not have. Even the contrast between the white date window and the brown dial is likeable.
