— A Swiss beat —
The dial carries plain, solid Arabic numerals that recall a railroad watch. At first glance this is classical Seiko — and then you open the case back and find something unexpected.
The movement is calibre 5328A, based on the celebrated slim Swiss Peseux 7001: a rare collaboration between Seiko's eye and traditional Swiss design.
— Legibility as function —
A fine sunray finish at the centre plays against the outer track to give the dial depth. Ornament is refused; the watch is built around the single job of reading the time, and that austerity is restful.
The kind of life quartz does not have, quietly enjoyed as part of a morning routine.
— A very good size —
At 33mm and kept thin, it slides under a shirt cuff without demanding attention.
The colour the exterior has taken on over the years gives it a depth that no new watch can offer.
— Time, taken care of —
The comfortable resistance of the mainspring under the fingers is the main pleasure of owning a mechanical watch, and a useful counterweight to an age that values efficiency above everything.
