Paul Picot was founded in 1976 in Le Noirmont, in the Swiss canton of Jura, by the Italian entrepreneur Mario Boiocchi.

It was launched precisely when quartz had overrun the market and mechanical watchmaking had entered its winter — and it was launched deliberately under the banner of mechanical revival.

The "Picot" in the name comes from a legendary watchmaker of the 18th century, taken up as a pledge to carry his values and his spirit forward.
