— Beyond its own time —

Patek Philippe ref.2508, returned after more than a year of servicing.

Produced from 1951 to the mid-1960s, it is a rare reference — rare enough that a community exists devoted to collecting this model alone.

It is not the iconic ref.96, nor the ref.565 with its first water-resistant construction. Collectors revere it anyway, because of how short the production window was, and because of the balanced beauty — beyond any period — that its 35mm case, large for its day, produces.

— An expression found nowhere else —

The dial ageing is superb. Depending on the angle of the light, a subtle ivory-cream two-tone rises between the central track and the outer track; the signature and the minute track are finished in engraving and enamel, with the geometric markers laid out in strict order.

Most surviving examples have been cleaned or restored over the years, which makes an untouched original dial genuinely scarce — and here the natural change adds real depth.

One reason ref.2508 is held apart is the screw-back case designed by Taubert.

The downturned lugs have a strength reminiscent of the celebrated ref.1463, and inside the case sits a dust cap protecting the movement from dust, magnetism and moisture.

The inner caseback carries FB/Taubert and Patek Philippe marks, and gold cases add Taubert's Key 11 — craftsmanship running right down into the details.

The flat-style crown is deeply knurled around its circumference, balancing grip against visual proportion. Understated, yet an important detail in the harmony of the whole.

— The aesthetics of Cal.27SC —

Cal.27SC was developed around 1949 and is highly regarded as the heart of ref.2508.

Direct drive eliminated the "shiver" of the minute hand seen in the previous generation of movements; early examples used a monometallic balance, later ones the Gyromax.

Geneva stripes, perlage and anglage are applied to Patek Philippe's own standard, and the movement proudly carries two Geneva Seals along with the "27 SC" mark.

Behind its classical exterior is a construction with both water resistance and antimagnetic protection, giving it a usefulness beyond the frame of a dress watch.

Taubert's case engineering fused with Patek's movement aesthetics: this model holds a special standing even within vintage Patek, and still commands deep respect from collectors.
