About the brand｜ユニバーサルジュネーブ

1894年、スイス・ル・ロックル。時計学校を出たばかりの二人の青年、デコンブとペレが興した工房が始まりです。1919年にジュネーブへ移り、以後この街の名を社名に冠しています。

のちにロイヤルオークやノーチラスを手がけるジェラルド・ジェンタが、まだ無名だった1954年に設計したのがユニバーサルのポールルーター。1965年には厚さ2.3mm、当時世界最薄の自動巻きを積んだシャドウを発表しました。

そのユニバーサルが、70年代にクォーツへ舵を切り、自動巻きを手放します。ブランドはその後長く市場から姿を消しました。知的財産が買い戻され、復活が動き出したのは2023年のことです。
