IWC Ingenieur 500,000 A/m ref.IW3508 cal.37590 / Black Dial, 34mm

At IWC's new-model announcement on 27 March 2023, the Ingenieur returned with a model change to the Genta design — the same design as this watch.

The new Ingenieur has antimagnetic performance of 44,000 A/m thanks to a soft-iron inner case and dial; this watch has an astonishing 500,000 A/m.

"Ingenieur" means engineer in German.

It is one of the collections that represent IWC.

Ingenieur enthusiasts abroad call this watch the "Skinny Ingenieur," for the thinness of its case and its exquisite 34mm size.

By using a special alloy in the escapement components, it has antimagnetic performance of 500,000 A/m that has still not been surpassed, along with shock resistance and 120m water resistance — its great distinguishing feature.

This model appeared in 1993 and was produced until 2000; simple in design without crown guards, it stands out for the flowing lines of case, lugs and bracelet, with a real luxury-sports quality.

A lustrous black dial with gold indexes and pencil hands is a combination with a fine sense of quality, giving a refined impression.

The reason is that this watch was designed by Gérald Genta.

Gérald Genta designed the Patek Philippe Nautilus, the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak and IWC's own Yacht Club, among many watches, and had an enormous influence on watch design thereafter.

Vintage Nautilus and Royal Oak watches are now very expensive and far from easy to reach, but this Ingenieur still feels like an unnoticed opportunity.

The movement fitted is the Cal.37590 with a 22k gold rotor (ETA Cal.2892-A2 base).

A zirconium-niobium alloy is used for the movement's hairspring, achieving the strongest antimagnetic performance in history.

With that astonishing antimagnetic performance, there is no need to worry about magnetisation, and you can wear it without concern for the knocks of daily life.
