— Touching time, learning by colour —
Kinder Time was born around 1970 as a watch for children learning the concept of time.
Made for education, yet with graphic design that stands up well even seen today.
The "CITIZEN" logo in katakana adds a familiarity particular to the period.
— A rhythm shown by a blue ring —
The blue gradient set on the inside is the element that defines this watch.
A ring whose tone changes each hour shows the time intuitively, and large Arabic numerals around the edge make the minutes clear to read.
The idea of teaching time through colour has a distinctly Japanese ingenuity about it.
— A manual mechanism supported by 7 jewels —
The movement is a 7-jewel manual calibre in the Cal.02 family, descended from Citizen's Homer line.
A simple, robust construction, with the particular feel of hand winding.
The small 31mm case is easy to wear as a grown-up casual watch too, and gives a light impression.
