A deep black dial with something almost cosmic about it, and markers regularly spaced that have burnished to a warm wheat colour.

The Leopard arrived in the summer of 1971 as Citizen's high-grade automatic, a clear step above the standard range, and more than half a century has taken nothing from it.

— A flowing cushion case —

The oval case with its gentle curves is a signature of 1970s design. Sharply polished surfaces show an elegance particular to vintage whenever the light hits them.

The CTZ-stamped crown sits discreetly at four o'clock — practical, out of the way of the wrist, and responsible for the asymmetry that makes the design what it is.

Open the case back for calibre 7720, generously fitted with 28 jewels and running at 28,800 vph — the "Super Beat" high-frequency specification, and a high-accuracy movement by the standards of the day.

Citizen's own turn-push function, which advances the date or the day depending on which way the watch is facing, is still working.

Dial, hands and markers are all in very good condition, and legibility is excellent. On a chic black leather strap it brings a certain dignity to business dress or to casual wear.
