Clebar.
A distinguished name in vintage chronographs, handed down quietly.
From the 1940s to the 1970s it released many fine chronographs on overseas markets, yet its name went unknown in Japan — a phantom brand.
One of them now returns to the present, wearing a patinated burn and a bearing that holds both warmth and something exotic.
The movement is the celebrated Valjoux 72.
Also used in Rolex's manual-wind Daytona, it is indispensable to any account of chronograph history.
An exquisite size of 34 to 38mm, and the appeal of an imported movement.
Valjoux, Venus, Landeron and the rest — the case sizes in which the great calibres of this era live settle naturally on a modern wrist, raising their value as collector's items further still.
