— A challenger's watch —
1970, a year full of expectation. The Custom V2 was Citizen's gift to young challengers: an energetic, forward-leaning design that seems to shut the youth culture and motorsport enthusiasm of the moment inside a case. Half a century later the personality has not faded at all.
— Function on the dial —
A deep, quiet matt black dial carrying thick square markers in good order, aged beautifully.
A 24-hour scale on the inner ring and a strong two-tone rotating bezel give the watch the masculinity of an instrument.
— Twenty-three jewels, still running —
Citizen's automatic calibre 7290 is keeping the same reliable beat it always did: a tough movement with 23 jewels and the best technology available at the time.
The PARAWATER stamp on the case is the footprint of Citizen's long campaign to build Japan's first genuinely water-resistant watch.
— Made April 1970 —
The flowing C-line case works surprisingly well with modern clothes, and the sharply cut stainless steel, original down to the details, looks the part.
