Waltham is America's oldest brand, with more than 170 years of history.
Setting out to produce watches — until then made one at a time by hand — to a unified industrial standard, it manufactured high-quality pocket watches and railway watches through the introduction of modern automation.
Here is an Americana, made around 1970.
A practical watch with design well suited to daily use.
On the white dial, a raised silver Waltham emblem sits at twelve, its top and edges catching the light as the angle changes.
The movement is the Cal.HT148, based on the A. Schild 1873.
There is a slight gap between case and crown; this is for the quick date-change function, which is operated by pushing the crown in from its normal position.
A good watch for anyone starting out with vintage, or looking for a dressy watch with Roman indexes.
