ZENITH SPORTO.
A round case in 18k yellow gold made in the 1950s, with hands, indexes and case unified in tone: a refined compositional beauty.
The case is about 34mm.
Restrained, yet a dimension that leaves a definite presence at the wrist.
ZENITH Cal.40T.
The movement is Zenith's Cal.40T.
Produced in the same period as the Cal.135, this mechanism has an escapement with a twin-lever regulator, giving high stability in adjusting accuracy.
Where the Cal.135 made its name in chronometer competition, the Cal.40T built a reputation for reliability as a working movement.
A quiet expression.
The dial has a small seconds.
Floating Arabic numerals combined with baton indexes form a face very much of the antique kind.
The star logo at twelve adds a story to the design.
That star is not mere decoration but a mark carrying the memory of the founder.
ZENITH, named for a star.
Zenith: the word means the highest point of the sky.
The founder, Georges Favre-Jacot, is said to have walked in the Swiss mountains, looked up at the stars, and concluded that the finest movement should be given the name of the highest point.
That intent lives on in the company name, and in the star of its logo.
