— A rare piece in golden dress —
A manual-wind watch of the 1940s carrying IWC's in-house Cal.83.
Most Cal.83 models have stainless cases, which makes a 14k solid gold case exceptionally rare.
— A classical shine with warmth —
A classical design with a unified dial colour, upright Arabic indexes and Breguet hands.
The warm solid gold case is small at 30mm, yet has the thickness and balance to sit beautifully under a shirt cuff.
— The beat of the great Cal.83 —
The Cal.83 is called the finest of IWC's manual-wind movements.
A finely built design that uses a ruby even for the central third-wheel bearing — a specification worthy of a solid gold case.
This is an early version, before shock protection, with split bridges carrying beautiful Côtes de Genève finishing and an elaborate construction placing the crown and ratchet wheels beneath the bridges: a mechanical beauty that is a pleasure to look at.
— The honour of eighteen years carrying IWC —
Production of the Cal.83 began in 1930 and continued until 1947, serving eighteen years as IWC's mainstay movement.
It was fitted to military watches including the Mark X, and earned a reputation as among the finest military watches in the world.
The beat of a calibre written into history still conveys the appeal of vintage strongly.
