The triple calendar: vintage aesthetics.
Gold alpha hands, a triangular pointer seconds hand, a lollipop date hand.
An exotic design rarely seen in Japan lives in this watch.
The dial has aged evenly and handsomely.
The red and blue printing survives vividly, the hands have lost none of their shine, and an exquisite 33mm size gives it a beauty that settles on the wrist.
A substantial 18k 750 solid yellow gold case.
The step design on the case sides and lugs gives it commanding presence, and the condition — with the lug facets beautifully intact — makes it hard to believe more than seventy years have passed.
The caseback carries the FB mark: evidence of its history.
It is a product of François Borgel, who filed the world's first patent for a screw-down water-resistant caseback construction.
Rolex is known to have acquired that patent and created the Oyster case from it, and the same venerable mark appears on the Patek Philippe ref.1463 "Tasti Tondi" and ref.565.
What beats inside is the Movado Cal.470.
Movado supplied its technology to Cartier for sports models, to Zenith for chronographs and to Tiffany for triple calendars — a house of real capability.
A piece that conveys the momentum it had as a manufacture at the time.
If you are going to choose, choose one you can talk about.
There is no guarantee of meeting another.
